This is the coziest mountain getaway.
A wooden house located in Xirolivado, at 1,200m, on a plateau up on Mt Vermio. This house is basically the last house of the village before the woods start.
I stayed there in January and upon waking up, the first thing I did was to get outside and really get a feel of the area, the forest, the mountain. What struck me was how quiet it was. Literally no sounds. You could only hear the birds and some animals and critters jumping here and there. If visiting in spring, summer or autumn you might stumble upon wild brown bears, as this mountain is one of their natural habitats in Greece. Wolves, deer, foxes and jackals are also common in the area.
This house can sleep up to 6, but my personal suggestion is that you visit in a company of maximum 4, so that everyone enjoys some comfort. There are two bedrooms with a double bed each, doors for full privacy. And then there’s an extra double bed on the mezzanine on top, which is super comfy and cozy. The kitchen is fully equipped, there’s even food that you can cook (spaghetti packages, rice, etc) probably from previous guests. Same for the bathroom, as you might see shower gels and soaps from previous guests. It really feels like an actual house and not like a “fake” Airbnb.
The city of Veria is a 20-mins drive away and Thessaloníki is a little over an hour.
10/10 experience.
