Alright, the Meteora are world famous. Millions of people visit those peculiar looking rocks with monasteries perched on top of them.

What if I told you that there is a hidden side of Meteora? It's called "Gavros", a quaint little village 20' outside of the town of Kalabaka, in the north.

This place is completely untouched. No hotels here, no coach buses, none of that. It's a very quiet village, populated by only a handful of people. The rocks and hills that surround the village are exactly like those you see in Meteora, with fascinating shapes, caves, holes, etc.

Here's a suggestion: the best place to enjoy this place to the fullest is by being guided around by the locals. When I visited, I met with Katerina and Thomas, who are both from Gavros and know the area by heart. We had a 2-hour trek around, I was shown some incredible spots as you can see in the pictures. There is a lot to see, hidden monasteries, viewpoints, forests, waterfalls, etc. It's basically as if you've visited Meteora but without the huge crowds. In fact, no one goes there.
Kindly contact @catherine_jika and/or @the_unknown_meteora on Instagram and let them know you're visiting. They offer tours and walks tailored to your likes.
