Those two small villages on the shadow of Mt Tymfi and the Astraka Towers (the soaring rocks right above the village) are truly something out of a fairytale.

Imagine two peaceful villages deep in the mountains of Pindos, displaying the Epirian architecture in the small, stone-built houses of which many are completely covered in moss, with narrow alleys around, friendly locals, excellent food and the amazing silence of the mountain. Below are some recommendations for the Papigo Villages:

• Eat at Astra Inn and Dias. Both have amazing traditional mountain food, with local ingredients and recipes

• Have dessert at Koukounari. Have you had cheesecake with goat cheese before?!

• Enjoy the incredible view with a cup of mountain tea or Greek coffee at Pinocchio

• Hike to the heights of Mt Tymfi, reaching the mountain refuge of Astraka and then continuing on to the Dragon Lake of Tymfi.

• See the "Ovires" natural pools of Rogovos, between the two villages. This is a place where you can have dip in the cool waters during the early summer months.

• Drive to Voidomatis river bed, near Aristi, where you can have a dip in the freezing cold waters, try rafting in the river, or simply enjoy the amazing colours of the nature.
