Spili is a mountainous village in the heart of the region of Rethymnon and took its name from the many cavernous cavities of Mount Vorizi on which it is built. The word “spilia” in Greek translates to “cave”, hence the name Spili.
If visiting, check out the 25 lion heads in the central square, from which water flows directly from the springs. Also, roam around the alleys and see the beautiful old houses of the village.
