What you’ll do

Zürich is a great home base for a wide variety of activities: hiking, city tours, boat rides, museums, shopping, waterfalls, etc.

This itinerary includes our favorite activities and day trips in Zürich city and eastern Switzerland (Appenzell, Heidiland, St Gallen, etc.)

But Zürich is quite close to Lucerne, so you can easily incorporate day trips from Lucerne itinerary as well, like Pilatus, Rigi, Stoos, and Engelberg.

If you have just one day in Zurich, this day is our "Best of Zurich" tour that hits the highlights, so you get a real taste for the city. If you have more time, you can spread the activities over more days.
However, I typically suggest that one day in Zürich city is plenty to discover its charms. If you have more time in Zürich, do day trips to the other destinations in this itinerary.
