When we want to clean up and dress up a bit after a day in the alps, our first choice is Restaurant Taverne, with beautiful and delicious food in the center of Interlaken.
They serve Swiss flavors with a modern twist, with lots of interesting and tasty flavor combinations and gorgeous presentation. You'll pay about the same as other Swiss restaurants in this area but I think you get much more value here. I'd go back in a second.
The menu changes occasionally. But on our visit, we particularly liked the sweet corn soup with turnip and hazelhut, veal steak with oyster mushrooms and tonka bean jus, mini burrata with olive focaccia, and homemade pasta with blue cheese, orange and mango.
My group of visitors wanted to try fondue. So we each ordered a main and one fondue to share, which was a perfect way for them to experience that part of Swiss culture. I loved the accompaniment of homemade pickled veg, so beautiful and crisp.
We love the cozy atmosphere, a mix of timber and stone with warm lighting. They also have a nice outdoor patio, where you can enjoy the view. This restaurant is on the quieter side of Interlaken, so even on busy days, it feels more relaxed here. While the food and service are high quality, the vibe is friendly and relaxed, not so formal like the nearby grand hotels.
A popular option is their "Chefs Dinner Party," a 3 course fixed price menu for two. They also have a surprise tasting menu, that changes seasonally.
