This snowshoe hike starts at the Ibergeregg pass and hikes through a quiet nature reserve and alpine meadows with spectacular mountain views. The trail starts on route 819, marked with pink poles and yellow trail signs, making it easy to follow.

Start location: Ibergeregg pass

After about 2 km, you'll reach Skihaus Sternenegg (see on map). On weekends, they serve simple food and drinks, very friendly service. We had coffee and delicious banana cake, enthusiastically served by the children of the adults running the hut.

On the advice of other hikers, we continued past Sternenegg to a viewpoint (marked by a cross - see on map) with a bench and great view towards the Mythen peaks.

Then we hiked back to Sternenegg for refreshments. Then continued the marked snowshoe route, looping down through some meadows, then up through a forest back to the Ibergeregg pass.

If you want a shorter hike, just skip the viewpoint, turning back after Sternenegg, about a 4.5 km loop. If you want a longer hike, do the full 819 Ober-Altberg Showshoe Route, which is a 9km loop.

How to get there

You can drive directly to the Ibergeregg pass and park in the metered parking near the trailhead. There is also bus service to Ibergeregg, Passhöhe, which is where the trail starts.
