This unassuming path is a little treasure, so much nature so close to downtown Zürich. One minute you are on the busy Forchstrasse and the next you are immersed in a beautiful lush forest, seemingly far from the city. It’s a great place for an impromptu family stroll and picnic and particularly beautiful in autumn when the leaves are changing colors.
This easy path follows a stream from Zollikon down into the east side Zürich city, easily accessed by tram on both ends of the trail.
We like to do a loop, starting at the Burgwies tram stop and hiking up the Pfadiweg. Then looping back through the Stöckentöbel. This version takes about 2 hours, going 7km, 150m up and down. See trail map.
For a shorter, easier version, you can start at the Spital Zollikerberg tram stop and walk one way to Burgwies. This takes about 1 hour, going 3.4 km and descending 140m. See trail map.
