Iseltwald is a cute little lakeside village on the southern shores of Lake Brienz near Interlaken. It has fantastic views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

It's recently famous for being featured on the Korean drama "Crashing Landing on You." This has disturbed the peace and quiet of the sleepy village, with many tour buses stopping here and long lines to take pictures on the iconic dock.

The village has recently installed a paid gate to access the dock, helping defray the expenses from the increased tourism. It now costs CHF 5/person to access the dock.

There's no set time limit, but be polite and don't take a very long time taking pictures when people are waiting. When we were there, most groups spent about 10 mins on the dock, larger groups about 15 mins.

Unless the TV show is very important to you, there's no need to pay for pics on the dock. There are many other places to stand and get amazing pics for free.

How to get there

By boat:

The nicest way to visit Iseltwald is by boat from Interlaken. The boat leaves from the Interlaken Ost (See) dock (across the street from the train station). The boat takes 54 mins to reach Iseltwald (See).

In summer, the boat runs 5 times a day. See current timetable.

You can buy tickets on the SBB Mobile App and on the boat. The boat ride is free with the Swiss Travel Pass, Bernese Oberland Pass, and Jungfrau Travel Pass. It is discounted with Swiss Half Fare Card and Interlaken Guest Card.

By car:

Iseltwald is about a 19 min drive from Interlaken. There is a parking lot in the village, near the lakeside and famous dock - see on Google Maps.

But on busy days, they block the road to the village and require you to park in the metered lot above the village - see on Google Maps. There is a public toliet at this parking lot. From here, it's a 5 min walk down a paved path to the lake.

By bus:

From Interlaken, you can ride Bus 103 to Iseltwald, about a 20-25 min ride. The bus runs about every 30 mins in both directions. The bus is free with Swiss Travel Pass.

By foot

There is a nice lakeside trail from Bonigen (village east of Interlaken) to Iseltwald. The path goes all the way around the lake and is called "Brienzersee Drei Wasserfälleweg" (aka Lake Brienz 3 Waterfall Path).

This segment from Bonigen to Iseltwald is 7km, about 2 hours walking time, 320m up and down. See trail map.

Where to eat

One downside of the tour buses is that none of them eat or stay in this village. So Iseltwald business aren't benefiting much from the increased interest. So if you visit, you might consider eating at one of the restaurants in town.

The Strand Hotel next to the dock would be a logical choice, with a nice outdoor lakeside terrace with spectacular views.

Hotel Chalet du Lac is also a good choice, about a 5 min walk from the dock. It's view includes the Schloss Seeberg castle, which makes for more interesting photos.
