At the top of the Niederhorn mountain, you can hike along a dramatic ridge with panoramic views of the Berner Oberland region. It's one of our favorites in the region, popular with Swiss locals but not so much with tourists.
You can easily adjust this trail to different lengths and difficulty to suit your crew, from 2 to 11 km - trail maps linked below. We've done it with little kids that could only hike about an hour. We've also done it without kids, spending most of the day exploring the mountain.
For casual hikers, we suggest hiking to Burgfeldstand, a viewpoint about 45 min hike from Niederhorn. You can hike back the way you came.

For a longer, more exciting hike, continue past Burgfeldstand on the ridge trail to the Gemmenalphorn, then loop back through alpine meadows and forests to the Vorsass gondola station.

To reach the Niederhorn viewpoint, you start by riding a funicular train located at Beatenbucht, 3658 Sigriswil, about a 15 min drive from Interlaken. There is metered parking next to the funicular. You can also ride a bus or ferry to the funicular station: Beatenbuch stop.
At the Beatenberg mountain village, you switch to a small gondola that takes you the rest of the way up the mountain.
In 2024, a round trip ticket to the top costs CHF 59. Free with the Berner Oberland Pass. Discount with Swiss Travel Pass, SBB GA and Half-fare cards.
