Niederhorn is tall mountain near Interlaken. They have two scooter runs on this mountain, going from the Vorsass middle station down to the Beatenberg village. This can be a fun activity for kids after visiting the Niederhorn viewpoint and hiking the ridge trail.

Scooter routes

There are two scooter routes starting at the Vorsass station.

  • Rocky Run is 6 km long and takes about 30 mins. It's a paved route and not as steep, so easier to manage and suitable for families. We much prefer this route.

  • Happy Trail is longer, taking about 60-90 mins. It goes over unsurfaced forestry roads with uneven terrain and has more flat sections, but also some steep parts that can be difficult for younger kids. It finishes on the main road through the village.

Open: The scooter runs are usually possible from late May through early November, depending on snow conditions

Tickets

In 2024, scooter rental costs CHF 15/person. Children 8+ can ride the scooters alone (they have smaller scooters for kids). Younger children may ride double with an adult. Ride at your own risk.

You'll also need a ticket for the mountain railways to reach the scooter run. Prices vary depending on how high up the mountain you want to go. At a minimum, you'll pay about CHF 34/adult for the mountain railways. See current prices.

Mountain railways are free with the Berner Oberland Pass. Discount with Swiss Travel Pass, SBB GA and Half-fare cards.

How to get there

To get to Niederhorn, you start with a funicular train located at Beatenbucht, 3658 Sigriswil, about a 15 min drive from Interlaken. There is metered parking next to the funicular. You can also ride a bus or ferry to the funicular station: Beatenbuch stop.

At the Beatenberg mountain village, you switch to a small gondola that takes you the rest of the way up the mountain. Get off at the Vorsass station for the scooters.
