This children’s trail near Interlaken has activities along the way that match up with the Muggestutz storybook, which tells about the fairy-tale dwarfs that live in the Hasliberg area.

Trail: Easy • 1.5 h • 4 km • 10m up, 280m down • trail map.

Open: last week of May to end of October. Check status and webcams.

Location: Meiringen cable car - Underem Gfell, 3860 Meiringen. Train station: Meiringen. About 30 min from Interlaken.

There are nice picnic areas along the way, an alpine dairy where you can buy local cheese, and gorgeous views.

We read the book before going on the hike, which made it more fun for the kids. But you can definitely still enjoy the trail without the the book.

Trail info

This trail is located in the Hasliberg mountain resort, starting at the Mägisalp station and ending at the Bidmi station.

The trail is not too long, mostly downhill, and the activities keep the kids motivated. Very small children might get tired, so you might have to carry them at some point since the path is not suitable for strollers.

You should plan for at least 3 hours on the trail, to allow for playtime. At the end of the trail, there is a big playground, picnic area and restaurant.

If you want to keep hiking, you can continue on the Marble Run trail, which continues to the next gondola station lower down the mountain.

How to get there

You can get to the trail by riding the cable car from Meiringen (Underem Gfell, 3860 Meiringen CH) or Hasliberg Reuti (Resti 5, 6086 Hasliberg). There is metered parking at both stations.

Ride up to the Mägisalp station. After the trail, ride the cable car back down to your starting point.

Tickets

When purchasing your cable car tickets, tell them which trail you intend to do and they will sell you the correct ticket. An adult ticket costs about CHF 34-44, depending on where you catch the cable car.

You get a discount for children, Swiss Travel Pass, SBB GA and Half-fare. Kids with SBB Junior Card or under 6 ride free.
