The Ibergeregg Pass is a mountain pass southeast of Lucerne at 1,406 m. You can reach the pass by car or bus, making it less expensive to visit than other mountains that have cable cars.

Many beautiful hiking trails start from the pass. We usually do the loop out to Rotenflue, where you have a fantastic view of Lake Lucerne and Grosser Mythen peak.

Trail: moderate • 2h30 • 6.85 km loop • 230m up and down

At Rotenflue, there is a cable car, restaurant and small playground. But we prefer to stop at the Alp Zwäcken hut on the way back for soup and their freshly made desserts.

If you prefer a shorter hike, then just hike out to the Alp Zwäcken hut, about 20 min walk from the pass. After the hut, the trail gets steeper and more difficult.

For almost no hike, you can walk just a few minutes from the parking to the Sonnenhütte restaurant, which has a terrace with fabulous views across the alps.

This trail is open year round, also a groomed winter walking trail.

How to get there

The Ibergeregg pass is located between the village Schwyz and Oberiberg.

By bus: The bus stop is Ibergeregg, Passhöhe. Typically you ride a train to Schwyz, then transfer to bus 505 to the pass. This is part of the regular public transport system, so included with Swiss Travel Pass, GA, and SBB Day Passes.

By car: You can put 47°01’02.9″N 8°44’00.2″E into your GPS navi.

You can drive to the pass from either side of the mountain. I find the road on the east side of the mountain (via Oberiberg) a little less stressful. But the road from on the west side (via Schwyz) is a bit faster from Zurich.
