If you or your kids don’t ski, a winter walk at Mount Rigi is a great choice for panorama views and fresh mountain air. In winter, the snow on this trail is groomed with machine, so you can walk on it with waterproof hiking shoes, no snowshoes required.

This winter walk is easy and suitable for families with children of any age. The length of trail can be easily adjusted from 1 to 9 km, to meet the needs of your group.

It’s nice for families because the long sled run, beginners ski hill and walking trail are right next to each other, so you can mix and match activities based on age and ability.

Trail info

I suggest a route from Rigi Kulm to the Rostock viewpoint. Then down to Rigi First. If you came up the Arth Goldau train, hike down to the Klösterli station. See trail map

If you came up the Vitznau train, hike across the the Kaltbad station instead. See trail map

Both trails are a little over 4km, about 50m up and down 350m to Kaltbad or 450m to Klöstlerli.

If you want a longer hike, you can continue all the way to Rigi Scheidegg and ride the cable car down from there.

How to get there

You can reach this trail with the Rigi train from either Vitznau or Arth Goldau. From the top station Rigi Kulm, you can hike down to middle stations on either train line.
