If you are visiting Mt Pilatus, we suggest doing the short walk up to the Esel peak viewpoint, the second highest peak in the Pilatus range.
On the Pilatus observation deck, there is a winding staircase directly behind the self-service restaurant. It takes about 10 mins of stair climbing to reach the enclosed viewpoint.
During fall, they may close the stairs if there is snow or ice. So make sure to check the Pilatus live status.
We think the panorama views from the peak are worth the small extra effort. We prefer the views here to the Oberhaupt peak on the other side of the terrace. But if you have time to hike out to Tomlishorn, we like that viewpoint the best.
