Stoos is a medium-sized ski resort south of Lucerne. They have a 2 km sled run starting at 1900m, which is a much higher elevation than most other mountain sled runs. This can mean more & better quality snow on the sled run than other places.
The sledding slope is quite steep and wild at times. My kids can't get enough of it. I'm always a little terrified and take the steeper sections really slow. Although you'll see lots of little kids on this sled run, I think it's better for kids 7+ that have a little common sense.
If you have older children that can sled on their own, the non-skiing/sledding parent can enjoy the views at Fronalpstock and relax in restaurant next to the panorama windows. There's also a short, spectacular winter walk along the cliffs.
The sled runs starts at the Fronalpstock viewpoint, which has spectacular views over the cliffs to Lake Lucerne. It’s one of the closest to Zürich so this would be my first choice for visitors.
Tickets: You can get a "winter sports" sledding day pass or slightly less expensive 4 hour ticket. They have an attractive family package which covers 1 or 2 parents plus all children 6-15.
Sled rental: You can rent sleds, airboards and other weird sled-type things at the Fronalpstock middle station. Last time we went, we had to pay in cash (CHF 8 for basic sled), but hopefully that's changed.
Location: Stoos funicular - Grundstrasse 232, 6430 Schwyz. The bus drops directly at the funicular station.
