Felsenegg is an easy "mountain" outing very close to Zurich, part of the Uetliberg range west of the city. On the ridge, you'll find an easy safe walking path along and through the forest. Typically, the trees turn colors here usually around the third to fourth week of October, but it can vary widely based on weather conditions.

To reach the trail, you can drive to the Buchenegg pass and park near the trailhead (free). Follow the trail towards Felsenegg, about 30 mins to the restaurant, which has a great view of Zurich lake and alps and playground for the kids. You can walk back the way you came or loop back through the tiny farm village below.

Loop trail: easy • 3.5k loop • 1hour • 60m up, 40m down See trail map on Komoot. More details on SwissFamilyFun.com

Or you can take a train to Adliswil, then short walk to the Felsenegg cable car station and ride up the mountain. In this case, the train ticket from Zurich also includes the cable car. This is a fun option if you like cable cars and good for visitors that need a little taste of the Swiss "mountains" without traveling too far or spending too much. From the cable car, it's only a 5 min walk to the restaurant. But you can still do the loop to the Buchenegg pass and back.

If you want to walk longer, you can start at Uetliberg and end at Felsenegg, about a 2 hour walk. Learn more here.
