Hike
30-60m
If you need a short activity while visiting Mürren, we love this easy walk to the tiny, adorable Gimmelwald village. The mountain views are absolutely spectacular during the whole walk.
I'm Gimmelwald, we suggest stopping at the Pension cafes for a tasty lunch and their locally famous Schwarz Mönch beer on tap. Then you can ride the cable car back to Mürren or down to the valley in Stechelberg and ride the bus to Lauterbrunnen.
The easiest path is following the paved service road that connects the two villages. You can do this year round, even in winter. A couple times the yellow trail signs have the walking path leave the road onto a dirt path, a shortcut on the curves. But if you need a stable walking surface, just stay on the road the whole way.
Trail info: 50mins • 2.1 km • 270m descent
See trail map.
Tip: If you prefer a longer hike, we suggest the North Face trail from Mürren to Gimmelwald.
This path starts in the Mürren village, near the cable car station. If you aren't already in Mürren, we suggest riding the cable car from Lauterubrunnen to Grütschalp, then the mountain train to Mürren (about a 25 min journey). Then wander the Mürren village before walking down to Gimmelwald.
Your costs depend on which mountain railways you use during the day. Typically, it costs around CHF 25-30 to do a round trip from Lauterbrunnen. The mountain lifts described here are included with the Swiss Travel Pass and discounted with other Swiss travel cards.
