If you need a short activity while visiting Mürren, we love this easy walk to the tiny, adorable Gimmelwald village. The mountain views are absolutely spectacular during the whole walk.
Trail info: 50mins • 2.1 km • 270m descent • See trail map.
You can do this walk year round if you stay on the service road. So a good choice for spring and late fall when other trails are closed.
Trail description
This path starts in the Mürren village, near the cable car station.
If you aren't already in Mürren, ride the cable car from Lauterubrunnen to Grütschalp, then the mountain train to Mürren (about a 25 min journey). Then wander the Mürren village before walking down to Gimmelwald.
Then follow trail signs to Gimmelwald, starting on the paved service road that connects the two villages.
A couple times the yellow trail signs have you leave the road onto a dirt path, a shortcut on the curves. But if you need a stable walking surface, just stay on the road the whole way.
The trail ends at the Gimmelwald cable car station.
💡Tip: In Gimmelwald, we suggest stopping at the Pension cafe for a tasty lunch and their locally famous Schwarz Mönch beer on tap. Then you can ride the cable car back to Mürren or down to the valley in Stechelberg and ride the bus to Lauterbrunnen.
