These waterfalls near Locarno are a fun place for locals to cool off and sunbathe under the hot Ticino sun.

How to get there

The falls are located in the Maggia village north of Locarno.

Bus stop: Maggia, Centro
Parking: Via Cantonale Vecchia 56, 6673 Maggia

To reach the falls, it’s a short walk through the Maggia village and up the river through the forest. The path is not super obvious and we got very lost the first time we visited. So use our trail map.

The path leads you to the base of the falls, where you can take the best pics. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a rainbow like we did.

What to do

Many people sunbathe on the boulders near the falls and swim in a chilly pool below the falls. But be very careful as the water is cold and rocks slippery. It would not be easy for small children to get into the water. Also be sure to check the local conditions before visiting after heavy rains as the water flow can be dangerous.

If you want a longer hike in the area, you can do the Giro della Valle del Salto trail before visiting the falls.
