Mt Niesen is a pyramid shaped mountain west of Interlaken, overlooking Lake Thun.
To reach the viewpoint, you ride a series of two steep funicular trains up to at 2362m. Then a short walk up to an enclosed panorama observation deck, with stunning views of the mountains and lakes of the Bernese Oberland region.
At the top, there is a restaurant with fantastic views from its large outdoor terrace. They served traditional Swiss dishes, a nice place to bring non-hikers. Families will appreciate the fun playground that has little playhouses.
How to get there
Niesen funicular is located at Heustrichstrasse 12, 3711 Mülenen, 25 min drive from Interlaken. Parking next to funicular station.
By train: Mülenen, 50 min by train from Interlaken
The funicular typically runs from the end of April through early November.
