The Zermatt Flower Trail (aka Blumenweg) is lovely ramble over rocky hills and through flower filled meadows.

Trail: easy • 1h30 • 4.5 km • 40m up, 350m down
See trail map

Along the way, signboards (in English and German) teach you interesting facts like which magical plant was used to restore a cow's milk. The trail ends at Sunnegga, where you'll find a fun playground and picnic area with a Matterhorn view.

The trail is short and pretty easy, all downhill. So a good choice for families hiking with small children. But the path is rocky with uneven terrain, so not suitable for strollers.

How to get there

To reach the trail, first ride up the Sunnegga funicular - Vispastrasse 34, 3920 Zermatt. Then transfer to the gondola up to Blauherd. Then follow trail signs for the "Blumenweg" ending back at Sunnegga.

Tickets

For this hike, you need the “Kombiticket” which includes a round trip ticket on the Sunnegga funicular train and a one way ticket on the Sunnegga-Blauherd gondola.

Discount with Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Half Fare Card, GA and other travel cards. Children under 9 ride free with a parent. Children 9-15 are 50%. Dogs ride free.

Note: If you plan to ride the scooters down from Sunnegga, you’ll only need a one way ticket on the Sunnegga funicular and Blauherd gondola. Just tell the ticket agent what you plan to do and they will sell you the correct ticket.

All mountain railways on the Sunnegga mountain are included in the Zermatt Peak Pass.
