Mürren is a charming mountain village, perched at 1650 meters above the Lauterbrunnen valley in the Jungfrau Region. It's known for its stunning views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks. Mürren is a popular destination for both summer hikers and winter sports.
Strolling through Mürren is a delightful experience, admiring the traditional chalets and spectacular views across the valley. It's a great choice for non-hikers that want to get that Swiss alpine vibe without a lot of work.
The short loop around the village takes about 45 mins at a slow page, on obstacle-free paths, suitable for strollers. See suggested route.
By public transport: Starting in Lauterbrunnen, ride the cable car up to Grütschalp. Then transfer to the Mürren BLM mountain train, which drops you on the edge of the village.
This journey is free with the Swiss Travel Pass, SBB GA and SBB Saver Day Pass.
By car: You can park in Stechelberg and ride cable cars to Mürren.
After exploring the village, choose a restaurant with a terrace facing the mountains so you can spend more time with the views. We like Hotel Alpina or Restaurant Edelweiss, which serve traditional Swiss classics. For a more casual meal, everyone loves Café LIV. For the best coffee, we like InSport Coffee Bar, which has a lovely view from their patio.
Mürren is a starting point for many fun activities and hikes.
Thrill seekers can do the Via Ferrata climbing route or paragliding off the cliffs.
With kids, we ride up the Allmendhubel funicular train to the huge Flower Park playground.
For even bigger views, ride cable cars up to the Schilthorn viewpoint and Birg cliff walk.
For hiking, we like the Mürren Mountain View Trail or North Face Trail.
Note: In 2024, the Stechelberg cable cars are being replaced. In Nov 2024, there should be a direct cable car from Stechelberg to Mürren, without the need to stop in Gimmelwald. Learn more.
