Hike
2-3h
The Seealpsee is an idyllic mountain lake in the Appenzell region of Eastern Switzerland, offering spectacular views of the impressive Alpstein mountain peaks. In fall, there are many trees around the lake that turn red, making for beautiful reflections on the lake.
We suggest hiking up here from the valley, which means its free and you don't have to rely on the cable car schedule. See trail map and info on SwissFamilyFun.com
Hike: moderate • 2 h round trip • 5.6 k • 270m up & down
I suggest visiting in second half of the day because the shadows are very long in October. Better to get some of that afternoon light on the lake and mountain peaks.
We always eat at Gasthaus Forelle on the lakeshore, usually having trout from the lake. It would be special to stay overnight here, but you have to carry your luggage on the hike.
