The Spitzmeilen mountain hut near the Flumserberg mountain resort southeast of Zurich. It's a popular destination for day trippers and those staying overnight to do longer treks in the back country.

Even if you don't plan to stay overnight, it's a beautiful hike to the hut, where you can have lunch with other like-minded nature lovers.

Unlike most Swiss mountain huts, the hike to reach the Spitzmeilen hut is relatively easy – no steep climbs, just rolling hills most of the way. It’s long at 15km, but relatively mild and frequented by all ages. 

There are a few trails that lead to the hut. We took the loop route recommend by my friend who owns a chalet in area. I wholeheartedly agree with her suggestion, though it’s a tad longer than the most direct route.

For this loop trail, you'll need a return ticket on the Tannenboden-Maschgenkamm gondola.

In 2024, this ticket costs CHF 35/adult, CHF 23/youth (age 12-18). Children under 12 accompanied by an adult ride free. See current Flumserberg prices.

How to get there

This trail is located at Flumserberg, a mountain resort in Eastern Switzerland, about 1 hour southeast of Zürich. This trail is accessed from the Tannenboden-Maschgenkamm gondola.

By car

Drive to Tannenboden and park in the metered lot next to the gondola station. It’s a well-maintained two lane road but lots of winding curves.

By public transport

Take a train to Unterterzen. The cable car station is conveniently adjacent to the train station. Take the gondola up to Tannenboden, then a short walk through the parking to the Maschgenkamm gondola.
