This cute mountain hotel/restaurant is typical Swiss, serving simple mountain food and speaking only the local dialect.

We like to stop here for cake and coffee on our way back from hiking to the Tänzbödeli viewpoint high above.

If you are riding bikes in Lauterbrunnen valley, this is a good destination for refreshments. It's about a 1 hour ride from the Lauterbrunnen train station and bike rental shops.

How to get there

It's at the far end of the Lauterbrunnen valley, past Stechelberg. See location on Google Maps.

On foot: Take a bus to the Stechelberg, Hotel stop (last stop). Then walk about 1 hour, following signs to Trachsellauenen. See trail map.

By bike: From Lauterbrunnen, bike on the service road that leads straight down the valley, not on the two lane road for car traffic. When you reach the Stechelberg cable car station, join the main road and continue riding up the valley. After leaving Stechelberg, the road turns into a steeper, winding one-lane road for the last 3k to the restaurant. See trail map.
