The Mürren Via Ferrata is a climbing adventure on the cliff walls 600m above the Lauterbrunnen valley floor.
Wearing a harness attached to safety cables, you navigate a series of obstacles including climbing iron rungs and ladders, walking on tightropes, and crossing narrow suspension bridges.
Season: June - October, weather dependent
The route takes about 3 hours to complete, descending 300m in altitude towards the alpine village Gimmelwald, descending 300m in altitude. This makes the course a bit more challenging. This route is rated T3 difficulty.
This is a demanding adrenaline-pumping experience, best for those with a good fitness level and head for heights. We suggest watching a video of this route to make sure you're up for it.
If you don't have experience with Via Ferratas, we highly recommend booking a guided experience with Outdoor.ch. The fee includes your safety equipment and a certified mountain guide.

Your fee does not include the cable car ticket to reach Mürren, which must be purchased separately.
If you have climbing experience, you can rent the equipment and do this activity self-guided. From Intersport Mürren, you can rent a safety harness, helmet and Via Ferrata lanyard for CHF 30. It's best to reserve the equipment in advance, as it can sell out.

Informed consent: Not to be a downer, but this activity has serious risks if done improperly. In summer 2023, a woman crossing the "Nepal bridge" on the Mürren Via Ferrata fell to her death. It is suspected that she had not properly attached her safety harness to the cables.
To do the Via Ferrata safely, Intersport Mürren requires that you are between 40-120 kg and at least 145cm tall (90-260 lbs, at least 57 in tall). This activity is not suitable for small children.
You should wear sturdy shoes and comfortable active wear suitable for rock climbing.
The Mürren Via Ferrata course starts in the Mürren village, which can be reached by cable cars and mountain trains.
By public transport: From Lauterbrunnen, ride the cable car up to Grütschalp, then the mountain train across to Mürren village. If you have the Swiss Travel Pass, Jungfrau Travel Pass, or Berner Oberland Pass, this mountain transport is free. Otherwise, buy a round trip ticket from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren (via Grütschalp).
By car: Drive to Stechelberg and park in the large lot next to the cable car station. Buy a return ticket for the cable car up to Mürren.
In either case, it's a short walk through the Mürren village to the Intersport shop where you pick up the Via Ferrata equipment.
