Trail: hard • 6h • 13.2 km • 830m up, 1270m down
See trail map
The trail has lots of steep switchbacks, narrow traverses with loose rock, and a slightly scary scramble to reach the viewpoint. It also has amazing views and is not crowded at all, due to the difficulty of the hike.
In the middle of the hike, there are a couple mountain huts where you can get refreshments, use the toilet and stay the night if you book ahead.
Location: Stechelberg cable car in Lauterbrunnen valley (see on map), easily reached by car or bus. Ride up to Gimmelwald to start the trail. The hike ends the Stechelberg, Hotel bus stop, where you can catch the bus back to your car or home base.
When to go: Usually open late June to early October.
Conditions: trail status • forecast • Mürren webcams
