The Panorama Restaurant Harder Kulm, perched high above Interlaken, serves traditional Swiss food with stunning views.
To get there, you ride a funicular train from Interlaken, a short ride of only 10 mins. At the top, there is a panorama terrace overlooking Interlaken, the lakes, and many mountains of the Bernese Oberland.
The restaurant shares the terrace, popular for evening aperos and sunset dinners, watching the alpine glow lights up the famous peaks. Best to make a reservation and specify an outdoor table.
Even in summer, they serve Swiss cheese fondue and raclette, a treat for tourists that didn't spend all winter eating these dishes like us locals. Their grilled meats are popular, but I lean more to the simpler alpine dishes like Älplermakkroni and Rösti. They loved to advertise the "biggest Cordon Bleu in the Berner Oberland," but it's so big we never ordered it. Although it's not our favorite food in Interlaken, you can't beat the view.
From Interlaken, you ride a funicular train about 10 mins up the mountain to 1322m.
The funicular station is located across the river from the Interlaken Ost train station (see on map). The funicular ticket is free with the Jungfrau Travel Pass and Bernese Oberland Pass. Discount with Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Half Fare Card, and Interlaken Guest Card.
Open: April through November
