"First View" is a new viewing platform located at the top of the Grindelwald First peak. It offers an incredible panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, including the famous Eiger North Face.

To reach the vantage platform, ride the gondola from Grindelwald to First. Then a short walk above the cable car station, following signs to "First View."

How to get there

Location: Grindelwald First Gondola - Dorfstrasse 187, 3818 Grindelwald, 10 mins walk from Grindelwald train station (not Grindelwald Terminal).

What else to do

You can easily visit both the “First View” and Cliff Walk, since there are very close to each and the gondola station. The Cliff Walk is right below this platform, but you’ll need to walk back down the path and follow signs to the Cliff Walk entrance.

The First restaurant, which has a lovely outdoor panorama terrace, a nice place for a coffee and snack or lunch.

From June to October, we suggest hiking the easy trail to the Bachalpsee lake, about 1 hour each way from the First gondola station. For adventure seekers, you can add on the epic zip lines, mountain go carts and/or kick scooters.

Plan about 2-4 hours for this outing depending on which activities you choose.

Cost

You pay a fee to ride the gondola, but it does not cost extra to visit the First View platform. In summer 2024, it costs CHF 72/adult for a round trip ticket on the gondola.

If you plan to do the amusements (First Flyer, First Glider, Go-Carts, or Trotti scooters), you can book the Adventure Package, which includes the gondola ticket and 1 or 2 of the amusements. If you want to do more than 2 amusements, you can purchase them separately.

When to visit

The gondola, First View, and First Cliff Walk are open mostly year round. So this is a good choice in spring and fall when hiking trails and other mountain viewpoints in this area are closed.

Hiking trails are usually open starting late June.
