This mountain above Locarno has sweeping panoramic views over Lago Maggiore. It also has a fun activity trail and playground for children, including a barefoot path.

To get there, you start with a funicular train in Locarno - Viale Francesco Balli 2, 6600 Locarno

In Orselina, you switch to a cable car which brings you up to Cardada. Here you'll find a restaurant, viewpoint, the kids trail and playground.

Then you can ride a chair lift further up the mountain to Cimetta, where you'll find a restaurant with a beautiful view from its terrace. A short walk up a stone pathway bring you to the panorama terrace with views over Lago Maggiore.

If you want to hike, you can do the short trail from Cimetta down to Cardada, about 1 hour, descending 310m (see trail map).

This area is often warmer and sunnier than northern Switzerland, making it a good escape when the cold settles in elsewhere.
