Fribourg is a swiss municipality situated on both sides of the Saane/Sarine river and surrounded by the pre-Alpes. Established as early as 1157 by Duke Berthold IV of Zähringen, it is an economic, administrative and educational centre. The Old City of Fribourg is one of the best-maintained in the country and with its colourful buildings and grand old cathedrals, is a must-see when visiting the area. You can enjoy activities like strolling through cobblestone streets, admiring the many churches and monasteries, and exploring local markets and shops.
