The Temple of the Emerald Buddha is a temple complex in Bangkok, Thailand that houses the highly venerated Emerald Buddha. It is not a conventional Buddhist monastery, but rather a private chapel for the kings of Thailand and their court. Completed in 1783 under the patronage of King Rama I, it is a awe-inspiring place filled with gold gilding, glass mosaics, and intricate panoramic paintings. Visitors can admire the Emerald Buddha itself, which sits on a throne and is surrounded by other Buddhist icons. The walls of the ordination hall have elaborate paintings depicting the Buddha’s life as well as the Hindu epic tale, the Ramayana. A visit to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is truly an unforgettable experience!
