Wat Traimit Witayaram Worawihan, also known as the Temple of the Golden Buddha, is a Royal temple located in Bangkok's Chinatown district. The temple boasts the impressive and legendary Golden Buddha image, which weighs five and a half tons and is estimated to date from the late 18th Century Sukhothai era. It is said that when the statue was moved in the 1950s using a crane, the cable broke, sending it plummeting into the mud - revealing its true golden nature! Today, visitors can visit the three story Phra Maha Mondop building and explore the history of the Golden Buddha on its second floor. The first floor houses the Chinatown Heritage Centre and the third floor houses the gold Buddha itself - a sight to behold!
