Mrigadayavan Palace is a national treasure and it has more in store than just historical artifacts. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Gulf of Thailand, this palace has been standing since 1910 when His Majesty King Vajiravudh commissioned it to be his seaside residence. The palace merges Thai and Western architectural influences, demonstrating how its beautiful environment and culture can harmoniously exist alongside each other! In 2021 UNESCO awarded Mrigadayavan Palace with the Special Recognition for Sustainable Development Award, which recognizes its commitment to preserving nature through a variety of initiatives involving coastal structures, New Theory Agriculture projects, and the planting of vetiver grass, among others. This year, the palace also became part of hosting a competition searching for Thailand's top traditional wood artisans, further showcasing its emphasis on cultural heritage preservation while staying true to its mission statement of being an inspiring case study for sustainable development.
