The Valley of the Five Lakes has long been one of Jasper’s most beloved hikes, offering an easy, family-friendly trail with stunning views of five brilliantly colored lakes. It’s one of our favorite hikes to recommend because of its accessibility and breathtaking scenery. However, the 2024 wildfires severely burned the area, leaving much of the surrounding forest scorched. While the lakes themselves remain untouched, the trail has suffered significant damage, with fallen trees and burnt boardwalks making access uncertain. As of now, there’s no set timeline for reopening, but once it’s safe to explore again, the Valley of the Five Lakes will undoubtedly remain a Jasper classic—just with a changed landscape that tells the story of the park’s ongoing regeneration.
