Sierra Negra is a large shield volcano located at the southeastern end of Isabela Island in the Galapagos Islands. It rises to an altitude of 1124 m and stands among other active volcanoes including Cerro Azul, Alcedo and La Cumbre. This beautiful eruption site is one of the most active volcanoes in the Galapagos, with eruptions historically recorded as far back as 1911, 1948, 1953, 1954, 1957, 1961, 1979 ans 2005. The most recent eruption began on 26 June 2018 before finally concluding on 2 August 2018. Guided tours of the volcano typically begin at Puerto Villamil and traverse the rim of the caldera along its East side before heading into the fresh lava fields north east of the main crater. Explore this interesting and exciting area and get up close and personal with one of nature's breathtakingly beautiful displays! On this tour you also go to Chico Volcano which is a part of Sierra Negra Volcano with beautiful red-yellowish colors.
