Ravana Ella Purana Viharaya, also known as Ravana Ella Cave Temple, is a Buddhist temple located in the village of Ravana Ella in Badulla District, Sri Lanka. Locals believe it was established during King Valagamba's reign. The temple's image house features ancient sculptures and paintings from the Kandyan Period, though they've been touched up with modern paint. Nearby is the Ravana Cave, where excavations have revealed evidence of human habitation dating back 25,000 years. While some locals claim it's linked to the mythical figures Ravana and Sita from the Ramayana epic, there's no concrete archaeological proof. Despite the myth, the site is protected as an archaeological monument.
