The Limoncocha Ecological Reserve is a stunningly beautiful environment in Ecuador that features two incredible lakes, Limonocha and Yanacocha, as well as wetlands, swamps, and humid tropical forests. With an elevation of 0 to 213 meters, this area boasts amazing local biodiversity, including 144 species of birds, 55 mammals, 39 reptiles, 53 amphibians, and 93 fish. The Kichwa natives living around the Reserve have been able to maintain their traditional practices of farming and hunting for generations, while also taking advantage of the opportunities provided by tourism. Visitors can explore the surrounding rainforest, visit the Kichwa community of Pompeya, and boat through the lake’s crystal-clear waters to look for alligators and colorful birds. For me, the most interesting part of Limoncocha is the fireflies at night, what a spectacle.
