Sightseeing
A remote and untamed nature reserve located in the northern parts of the Westfjords. It's known for its rugged mountains, dramatic cliffs, and abundant wildlife (especially the arctic fox!). With limited accommodation and transport options, it offers a true off-the-grid experience with the best time to visit during the short summer season (when ferries run from around June to August). You can go explore the area on multi-day treks on your own (do some research first) or opt for guided tours to navigate the challenging terrain safely. Whatever you decide to do, this will be an experience of a lifetime!
QUICK NOTES:
What it is: An incredible nature reserve in northern Westfjords with untouched and raw nature.
Best season: Summer.
Best time of day: You'll have to do either day trips or multi day trips to the area.
Nice to know: To reach any part of Hornstrandir you need to take a boat from Ísafjörður. Since it's a big and complex region with unpredictable weather, I'd always recommend you do a guided tour rather than venture out on your own. I recommend West tours or Borea Adventures (both local companies).
