Gluggafoss ("Window Waterfall") is renowned for its large 'windows' formed by the Merkjá river flowing through the soft palagonite rock, allowing observers to partially see the water flow. I personally really like this waterfall as there usually aren't too many people there. It's only about 10 minutes away from the main road.
QUICK NOTES:
What it is: A very special waterfall about 10 minutes from the main road on the south coast.
Best season: Any.
Best time of day: Midday/Afternoon (usually in the shade during sunset and sunrise, depending on the season though).
Nice to know: You can actually get very close to the waterfall itself so feel free to get wet if your into it!
