Arnardrangur is one of Iceland's many iconic rocks, and like many of the others, it's located on a black sand beach on the South Coast. For the most classic view you'll drive to the eastern side of Dyrhólaey and make a short walk from the parking lot. During puffin season (May - mid August), this place is packed with puffins with many being super close to the viewing spot. If you have time, you can walk from this side of Dyrhólaey and to the west (upper) side of it. This is an easy and scenic little hike and also makes you skip the hassle of trying to find a parking spot on the western/upper side of Dyrhólaey.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: An iconic rock in a black sand beach on the South Coast of Iceland

  • Best season: Any

  • Best time of day: Any (but sunset over there is incredible)

  • Nice to know: During puffin season (May - mid August) you'll find countless puffins, up close, in the rocks where you'll be standing
