Heinabergslón is a secluded glacial lagoon in the south east part of the Vatnajökull National Park. Its outlet glacier is called Heinabergsjökull and provides a great area for hiking and enjoying nature in general. And the best part is... there are rarely big crowds there!

You should note that it's located off the beaten path and a 45-minute drive from Jökulsárlón, making it the perfect destination for adventurers seeking a peaceful holiday experience. If you're into kayaking adventures, there are a few tour operators that offer exactly that on Heinabergslón.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A less known glacier lagoon in south east Iceland.

  • Best season: Any.

  • Best time of day: Any.

  • Nice to know: The first picture shown is taken as we hiked onto the completely frozen lagoon. To do that you really have to be sure that it's frozen solid so please refer to local guides beforehand. Aside from that, this area is incredible for hiking so if you have the time, have a look at the map there and pick a route!
