Gjáin, one of Iceland’s natural hidden gems, lies hidden away in the Þjórsárdalur valley upcountry in South-Iceland. It is a beautiful area place of breathtaking nature with its lush vegetation, columnar basalt and many small waterfalls (two main ones) and rivers. Gjáin is an ideal spot nature lovers and families since you can easily spend a few hours exploring and enjoying everything it has to offer.
QUICK NOTES:
What it is: A fairytale like area with waterfalls, rivers, ponds, caves and incredible rock formations.
Best season: Summer/Fall.
Best time of day: Any (but when the sun is very low this place will mostly be in the shade).
Nice to know: Bring some snacks and take your time there, walk around the area - if you have kids then this is the perfect area to let them spend some energy.
