Hópsnes is a small peninsula east of Grindavík and the lighthouse is the most interesting structure that appeals to most locals and tourists. Built in 1928, the Hópsnes lighthouse served as a beacon of light to guide sailors around the treacherous coast of Reykjanes.

Upon reaching the lighthouse, you can take photos of the structure as its vibrant colors contrast the black lava and the rough terrain below. If you go up the lighthouse on a clear day, you’ll even see Eldey Island far out on the horizon. There's also an old shipwreck to the west, not very far away from the lighthouse.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A lighthouse close to Grindavík, Reykjnaes peninsula.

  • Best season: Any.

  • Best time of day: Any.

  • Nice to know: There is also a shipwreck there close by.
