Halldórsskora (Elephant Rock) is a unique volcanic rock formation located on the western coast of the island of Heimaey in the Westman Islands. This eye-catching formation resembles an elephant and even though it can only be reached by a one-hour boat tour that takes you to the lower part of the rocky area with steep cliffs, you can still marvel at it from the ground from around 500 meters (1600 feet) from a trail by the golf course.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: The famous "Elephant Rock" in the Westman Islands.

  • Best season: Any.

  • Best time of day: Afternoon and sunset for the best light.

  • Nice to know: There are boat tours available that will take you up close to the rock!
