One of the most epic roads in Iceland, Svalvogar in the Westfjords of Iceland is a perfect destination for adventure lovers. This area is known for its "danger", as it is home to the most treacherous and narrow road construction in the country, Kjaransbraut. Originally carved from the mountain ledge by Elís Kjaran Friðfinnsson using only a small bulldozer, his dedication over the span of ten years has gifted tourists with ruggedly beautiful scenery. You'll have to drive over big boulders so you really should only go in a capable 4x4.
QUICK NOTES:
What it is: A beautiful church on the Reykjanes peninsula.
Best season: Summer.
Best time of day: Low tide.
Nice to know: Be very careful that you'll not get trapped there as high tide rolls in. A few cars have already been claimed by the ocean there! Better have a capable 4x4.
