This one is in a great location for those who wish to explore the eastern side of North Iceland. The swimming pool is small but you really get a feel for how Iceland used to be in the past. It has two hot tubs and an area for sunbathing. From Heiðarbær is a short distance to many of the most popular attractions such as lake Mývatn, the waterfall Goðafoss, Ásbyrgi and the canyon Jökulsárgljúfur. Heiðarbær also has a camp site and food for sale.

Swimming pools are an integral part of Icelandic culture and has been ever since people started gathering in natural hot springs in the past. It's where people meet an talk about everything from the weather to politics. Entering one of those pools is really the easiest way to immerse yourself in the local culture.

PS. They're almost all geothermally heated!
