Háifoss is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland, located above Þjórsárdalur valley. It can be viewed a short distance from the parking spot but going down into the canyon turns the mere sightseeing into a real adventure. Looking at the 122 meters tall waterfall from the ground, you really grasp the scale of the place. The hike will take around 1-2 hours but the views from down there are incredible. Just know that you should never have to do any technical climbing to get down there, usually there is a clear trail to get there. The most tricky part is the drive to the waterfall, the road isn't always in the best shape so drive slowly.
QUICK NOTES:
What it is: A canyon with an epic waterfall in the highlands of Iceland.
Best season: All but winter and early spring. It is amazing during winter but it can be hard to drive there and also getting around in the canyon.
Best time of day: Any.
Nice to know: The closer to the waterfall you get the more impressive it gets.
