The Stokksnes peninsula in southeast Iceland has captivated visitors with its astounding scenery for centuries. Featuring Vestrahorn, a mountain base that stands 454 metres (1490 ft) tall and whose steep cliffs fall almost straight into the ocean. Make sure you take a little time to walk around the huge sand dunes and onto the beach itself. My favourite views are around the sand dunes close to the ocean.

You can also explore the nearby Viking village film set. Stokksnes is also historically significant; as one of the first settlements in Iceland and an important strategic location for the British army during World War Two. Whether it’s for sightseeing or photography, Stokksnes peninsula is sure to amaze you.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A peninsula on the southeast corner of Iceland offering the iconic view of Vestrahorn mountain.

  • Best season: Any.

  • Best time of day: Any,

  • Nice to know: To drive along the peninsula you need to pay entrance fee which is around 6 USD but you can also park your car and make the walk. This area is a true photographer's playground. The endless sand dunes, small ponds and the ever-epic backdrop creates endless opportunities for epic frames so make sure you take your time and explore the area!
