Located in the beautiful Laugarvalladalur valley, the Laugavallalaug Hot Spring is an incredible natural geothermal pool in East Iceland. A nearby dormant volcano provides heat to the waters making it a perfect spot for relaxation. There is an old house to change your clothes. As it is quite remote and the last part is unpaved, a 4x4 is advised.
How to get there? From Egilsstadir, drive southwest on Route 95 and continue for about 11 km / 7 miles. Take Route 931 for around 11 km / 14 miles, crossing Lagarfljót Lake and turning left to continue on Route 931. After about 3 km / 2 miles, turn right onto Route 910 and follow the road until you reach Kárahnjúkar power plant (which is pretty interesting so feel free to stop for a few minutes). From the power plant, you keep driving about 7 km / 4 miles to the hot spring. There is a small parking lot where you'll leave your car before hiking for a few minutes.
